Nando’s drops Mix It Up Vol.4

At Nando’s, we’re all about pairing up things that go brilliantly together – whether it’s PERi-PERi and chicken or Amapiano and top local and international music talents. That’s the idea behind Mix It Up, which sees South African musicians teaming up with the hottest names from around the globe to produce some tasty new Amapiano tracks. Vol. 4 has been released, created withBridges for Music, and with the reigning queen of Amapiano, Uncle Waffles as Executive Producer.

Featuring a fired-up compilation of tracks from UK grime MCGhetts, North London rapperChy Cartier, and Nigerian singer-songwriterFAVE, each bringing their craft and sound to piano beats created by South African producersTK Creedlion,Royal MusiQ,Makhanj,
Ice Beats Slide,Sbuda Maleather, Vol. 4 is Nando’s fourth music release.

Recorded and produced between Nando’s sponsoredFlame Studioson Constitution Hill in Johannesburg and Nando’s Soho recording studio in London, the EP embodies our belief that ‘Life’s Better When You Mix It Up ’.

Under the guiding hand of superstar DJ Uncle Waffles, who hand-picked each producer for the EP and collaborated with artists in the studio, international cultures and music styles come together on the tracks to embrace the Amapiano genre, championing collaboration and experimentation.

The EP has been produced in partnership with Bridges For Music, a non-profit organisation gathering key players from the music industry to support emerging talents and build new-age learning programmes in South Africa. Mix It Up shines a light on the incredible sounds and talent South Africa has to offer, while driving Nando’s broader goal of changing lives through its connection and influence within music in the UK and SA.

Featuring artist Makhani keeps the track grounded to its roots with rhythmic chants which seamlessly blend into the instrumental itself.

North London’s emerging talent Chy Cartier paints a vivid picture of her experience with Nando’s in Johannesburg in real-time, recording the line ‘tough like a breakfast rusk’ with a pack of breakfast rusks on the table next to her… Clear evidence of her quick wit and ability to embrace her new surroundings. Her track ‘Jozi’ sees her team up with Piano super producer Royal MusiQ who provides an almost militant backdrop of steady snares and thumping low end to accompany Chy’s fierce performance. Makhanj provides hypnotic vocals in the chorus which work well to balance the fast wordplay from Chy Cartier, making for a song packed with strong influences from across the world.

Nigerian singer-songwriter Fave isn’t one to pigeonhole herself to a single genre, which is probably how her track ‘Gen Z Love’ effortlessly blends Piano, Pop, Caribbean and Hip-Hop influences into a concoction of all things sweet and spicy. Alongside the beautifully crafted backing of Ice Beats Slide’s soulful production, The Headie’s ‘songwriter of the year’ award winner Fave expresses her vulnerability around modern day love through an authentically moving performance that instantly draws your attention from the first word to the last.
