Nando’s Mafikeng Drive-Thru
February 19, 2025We love firing up local art and design, and we love how fired up our talented southern African creatives get about the chance to showcase their work in our casas around the world. Every new casa – like Nando’s Drive-Thru in Mafikeng, North West – is an opportunity to serve up the hottest young talents.

When I saw Nando’s Mafikeng for the first time ever, I saw it as a unique opportunity to blend modern architecture with the rich cultural heritage of the area, says Tuami Zulu of Proportion Studios, the interior designer behind the new casa.

My goal was to create more than just a functional space—it had to be an experience. I drew inspiration from African craftsmanship, using warm textures and flowing patterns and curves to ensure the design felt both contemporary and deeply connected to the local community. Every detail, from the layout to the materials, was crafted with intention to reflect the vibrancy of Mafikeng while enhancing the Nando’s brand.

Nando’s Mafikeng features lighting by Ashanti and Modern Gesture, a striking orange washstand by Dokter and Missus, large woven panels by Vogel Design, Chairs by Naturalis that feature patterns by Nando’s Hot Young Designer finalist,Spamandla Mdunyelwa, with the bold exterior pattern on the exterior of the casa byGlorinah Mabaso– also a Nando’s Hot Young Designer finalist.

This project is about transforming a simple drive-thru into a landmark, a space where architecture and food come together to tell a powerful story, says Tuami.
